In 1963 he was married and initially was part of the Parish of St Marks, Pendle Hill in the Diocese of Sydney but then his life changed to a nomadic one associated with his employer the Commonwealth Bank. Promotions took him to Deniliquin in the Diocese of Riverina,; Wollongong Diocese of Sydney; Bombala in the Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn, then to Darwin, Diocese of Northern Territory and finally his career in the bank ended at Kiama in the Diocese of Sydney. Neil also has had associations with the Diocese of Perth and Melbourne.

Neil joined AMS when he moved to the Parish of Toukley in the Newcastle Diocese and under the leadership of Jack Jones he became Diocese Treasurer of AMS and ultimately National Treasurer of AMS 5 years ago.
