THE ANGLICAN MEN'S SOCIETY

Many Parishes do not have any organisations for men, they have children's, youth and women's organisations, but nothing for men! There was a time when a church without a men's group was an unhappy exception, when a parish without a branch of the Anglican Men's Society was incomplete.
It is a popular misconception that AMS is just another parish organisation calling incumbents to jeopardize their time by attending one more meeting. Nothing can be further from the truth.
AMS is a brotherhood of clergy and laymen representing the men of the church.
It gives the men the opportunity to participate in its service instead of being mere onlookers and critics, it binds church men more closely together in a common effort
of prayer, service and fellowship to help forward the work of the church amongst men.

'A commitment means more than Belief without Belonging'.

ARTICLE: ANGLICAN MEN'S SOCIETY (AMS).

It is interesting to note that a Society is -
'An association of persons united by a common aim or interest or principle'
- As described in the Concise Oxford Dictionary.

A. M. S. is a brotherhood of both clergy and laity within the fellowship of the Church.
Its work is part of the ministry of the Church.
The Aim of A. M. S. is:
The advancement of the Christian faith through the fellowship of men
within the family of the Church through a series of objects to:
: Set forth the glory of God, and promote a feeling of spiritual enthusiasm in its members.
: Encourage its members to play an active part in the ministry of the Church, and to undertake study
in the faith and its application to the issues of everyday life.

: Undertake acts of Christian service for the distressed, disadvantaged or disabled,
eg. AMS - BILL BRADY WELFARE ORGANIZATION Inc. (Melbourne Diocese) .
: Encourage acts of mission by its members.
: Promote Christian fellowship within the Church and the work of the Church amongst her youth,
and promote Christian Principles in the National and Civic life of the community.
: Be active in personal service for the Church and involving others within the parish and beyond.

The Rule of Life of Members is: In the power of the Holy Spirit to pray to God each day,
to be a faithful communicant, and by
ACTIVE - WITNESS, FELLOWSHIP AND SERVICE ,
to help forward the kingdom of Christ, (Our Lord and Saviour).
